Today is our first day with just us, our little family of 3. My mom flew home yesterday. So far, so good. All we’ve really been doing the past couple weeks is recovering and resting. I think Jonah had his 2 week growth spurt yesterday. He was eating every hour on the hour and not sleeping much at all. Last night was a complete turn around though. He slept almost all night with barely any eating. I had to wake him up to get some relief! Even then, it was like he was too comfortable to bother. Kim came by yesterday too. He weighs 10lbs, 7oz. now!
We are doing a picture project with Jonah called the 365 project. A friend of ours in Utah just finished this project for himself. Apparently, it’s not easy! But we figure, what could be a better time and subject for a project like this? A picture every day from birth until one year old. It will be amazing to look back on. So, I am still getting the pics from the last couple weeks put together, but here is what I have so far:

I am one happy mama. It has been a great week! We are just hanging around the house. Me recovering from the surgery, Jonah learning how to be a little human. Every day is something new!
I’m spoiled (which I know I deserve). Mom is here helping us out. She feeds me wonderful meals and holds the little man while I take a shower. It’s so awesome she can be here and spend so much time with her new grandson.
So I don’t have much else to say right now. I just wanted to let everyone know that we are doing great. It has been an amazing experience so far. And we love Jonah so much. I am recovering well from the surgery. I’m almost off the pain meds! I hear someone calling me now, gotta go.

Today was our last day at the hospital. Jonah had a few things checked up on, Caroline had a few things checked up on, and dad took care of the both of em. The hospital fed us a complimentary gourmet dinner. We both opted for the succulent lobster tail. Pretty fancy. In fact everything about this hospital was pretty fancy. The place was almost like a resort minus the tennis courts. Definitely the kind of place I wouldn’t mind being sick in. Regardless, we are now home and happier for it despite the loss of our fantastic view of the Rockies. We traded up really. We may not get to see the Rockies as well but instead we get to look at our beautiful baby boy in the privacy and comfort of our own home. Yeah, we definitely traded up.

So to make short of a long story (a story which Caroline will tell later) we ended up have to have a C-section. Jonah just didn’t fit. He has some pretty broad shoulders and we think one of them got caught along the way and he just wouldn’t come out. We haven’t had a good chance to talk with the doc about this though. Regardless, we are doing great. Jonah is healthy and happy and doesn’t seem to have been affected by the anesthesia at all. Caroline is also doing great. I can’t even begin to tell you all how proud of her I am. She did an amazing job. In the end we all got some much needed rest on our post-partum room and had the nurse wake us up so we could watch Jonah’s first sun rise. Our room has an awesome view of the mountains. It faces west but it was still very nice to watch the rays of the sun touch the mountains and foothills. We are expecting to enjoy an excellent sunset. We will put some pictures up of the sunrise and sunset later. in the mean time, here are a few other pics for you. Including one of Jonah and his beautiful mom and Jonah nibbling his own arm.

Wednesday afternoon, with snow drifting out of the sky, Caroline began early labor. We spent the night at home having a good time laughing and laboring with our doula Lia. As the night came to a close though we hadn’t progressed past eary labor and were all really tired. So we slept and our labor sort of faded away. In the morning we had almost nothing going on.
Thursday was frustrating. We tried every natural method we could think of to get labor going but the contractions just weren’t picking up in strength, intensity, or frequency. As the night came to a close we kicked it; pulled out all the stops. Relaxing music, candlelight, deep breathing, light touch massage, everything we envisioned for our birth was going on. We had an excellent energy and for a few hours it seemed like things were picking up. But…no progression. So two weeks after our “due date” and two days of early labor with no progression we decided it was time to get some help. Our midwife Kim drove us to Loveland and the Medical center of the Rockies.
We got here pretty late. So late it could just as easily be called early. After check-in, a gauntlet of questins about our medical history, and a checking of the basic vitals, we were able to settle in and get some much needed sleep a little after 4 a.m. During the night Caroline got checked up on a few times and our nurse and doctor changed over.
Today has been excellent. The staff here is great and very supportive. Our nurse is named Sage and she used hypnobirthing for her birth. She is great. Our Doctor is named Kozak and she is also great. She has a necklace of the venus with a swirl on its belly. To the point though, Caroline and Jonah are both absolutely fine. So much so that the Doctor said if we wanted we could even go home and give it some more time despite how late we are. We decided to stay and give a slow pitocin drip a try to get things started. We wanted to rupture the membranes but couldn’t safely do so because of Jonah’s position. The Pitocin seems to be doing the trick though. At least the contraction are going nicely and we have every expectation that they will continue to pick up. Caroline was looking over a bunch of paperwork and sitting down. She started to have some trouble focusing, stopped checking the paperwork, stood up, and watched the monitor keeping track of contractions go wild. So things are looking good for a birth either tonight or early tomorrow. No worries though. Everything is going to be fine. Caroline is fine, Jonah is fine, and that’s all that really matters.

I had a craving. That was my cause. Turns out, the only place in town that sold what I wanted no longer sells them. But it was a nice day for a bike ride. 10 days past my EDD. I’m obviously feeling pretty good. Not much pelvic pain anymore. We were almost home when the little one started to get upset with me though. He started kicking my ribs and pushing and stretching really hard. I had to stop and rest at one point, and as soon as I started pedaling again, he started kicking again. I think it’s because my leg hits my belly!
My midwives had 5 babies due this month, and 3 have been born so far. I think Jonah wants to be last. He’s got 4 more days, then he’s getting evicted. Naturally, if at all possible!
Justin has been making some amazing pizza. We had our friends Sharon, Jamie, and Shauna over the other night for some. There were some laughs, lots of pizza eating, and some crafts. Very fun night. He made me more pizza for dinner today. I wanted cream cheese and pineapple. Yum… He also made some great cinnamon rolls from scratch last night. Those are dangerous.
And so the waiting continues…

Our friends Kayla and Broidy came to visit yesterday. Kayla brought halloween makeup!! She is very artistic and drew a sunflower on the belly! Then she and Broidy made themselves into Zombies. Well, Kayla was zombie, Broidy was more just dead. We went out for some chinese food, and it was all fun times! Our waitress at the restaurant was preggo too, with 2 months to go. She was tiny! It looked like she had 4 months to go! I asked her about it, and she said baby isn’t hungry. It was a good day. Had some good tub time before bed, and slept well.

Yep. That’s about what’s going on. I spent all day cooking and cleaning, with a nap in the middle. I guess that’s a good sign. Our freezer and fridge are now completely full. The house is clean and organized. I am DONE. This child needs to be BORN.
In other news, our friend Nikki took us out to eat at Smashburger tonight. It is so good to get out of the house and hang out with a good friend. And of course, eat yummy burgers. We are watching a movie now, but I might have to go to bed in a minute. Didn’t sleep well last night.
Good night.

I’m trying to actually get out of the house and do what Dr. Brian advises. Walk, walk, walk. So we took a quick walk down to the end of the street to see what is down there. We can see the dead end from our kitchen. As we were walking, we talked to a guy with his toddler. He was surprised to hear how close to my due date I am (3 days!).
It turns out, there is a radio tower at the end of the street.

It is surrounded by a fence and has a gate with a no trespassing sign.

But there are trees and a kind of path next to the fence. We are gonna have to check it out sometime. There were tracks in the snow, most likely fox. Across the street from the gate is a nice little alley.

And here’s a belly pic for you!

There’s a couple more on the flickr too. Have a good afternoon!
